SINGAPORE | Nights at the Royal Plaza on Scotts Hotel
Saturday, January 26, 2013“Dear Christian, welcome to Singapore!” read a handwritten message waiting for me at my swanky room at Royal Plaza on Scotts in Singapore. Our home base for our three-day stay in Singapore would be this 5-star hotel located on one of the trendiest streets in the country.
We’ve been crisscrossing the roads of Singapore aboard a tour bus with Garry as guide. The places we’ve visited are really awesome and there was never a dull moment while inside the bus as our guide’s witty cracks always make us laugh. But a whole day of going around can really make one crave for a soft bed to turn to as the day ends.
And Royal Plaza on Scotts perfectly suited our needs for a good night’s rest. It was love at first sit as I rested my weary bottom on the soft bed of our room.
I shared the Superior Room with V of Lakbay Baguio and I like how tastefully it was decorated; amber-colored carpeting, dashes of natural wood paneling, brown earthy palettes mixing with modern whites. The warmth of its tones didn’t get lost in the modernity of its design.
It is fitted with the standard standard 32” LCD television, closets and working desks (perfect for blogging). But best of all were the Nespresso machine and the mini-bar which is replenished daily. And we really don’t need to worry about consuming everything in it since it was all covered by the room fee.
The toilet and bath was also quite nice. It is very spacious and the fittings were all very modern. I especially love the rain-type showerhead and the lemony after-scent of their bath gel and shampoo.I understand that free Internet in Singapore is a rare commodity and I love the fact that hotel guests need not worry about it. Royal Plaza provides free Internet access on all areas of the hotel, something bloggers like me cannot live without.
The five-star hotel has been the recipient of Asia Pacific’s Independent Hotel for six consecutive years by the TTG Travel awards. It houses a total of 511 rooms on its 15 floors and holds 10 function rooms for parties and business needs. It has a swimming pool and a fitness center for fitness buffs, an Internet lounge for Facebook addicts and two restaurants for foodies.
We spent two mornings gorging ourselves fat on Royal Plaza on Scott’s award winning restaurant, Carousel. The place can probably seat everyone checked in, it was huge to say the least.
They serve everything one can think of for breakfast this side of Asia. Meat cuts, sausages, eggs, noodles, soups, pastries, fruits, cereals and my favorites, dumplings. They have all sorts of this strange gooey meaty concoctions, I didn’t even bother listing their names anymore.
My gratitude to AirAsiaGo Philippines for booking us at The Royal Plaza on Scotts (which you can do too, for a much better deal). It is as good as a second home can get, well, better than home actually, when in Singapore.
