CAMBODIA | Sokha Angkor Resort, Luxury in Siem Reap
Saturday, June 20, 2015The salt water pool at Sokha Angkor Resort was heaven. It almost made us forget the Little Circuit Temple Tour that we’re supposed to be doing that day—spending too much time swimming and goofing around the hotel’s huge pool after breakfast. It was our second time in Siem Reap and this time, we decided to splurge a bit.

SOKHA ANGKOR RESORT GRAND LOBBY |
Coming from an overnight bus ride from Thailand, we arrived at Siem Reap at quarter past nine. We hailed a tuk-tuk and were dropped off at the Sokha Angkor Resort’s driveway in a few minutes. We knew, as we entered its expansive lobby, that we’re gonna be in for a treat.

CARVINGS MIMICKING THOSE AT THE ANGKOR TEMPLES |
Sokha Angkor Resort is a five-star hotel located along National Road 6, walking distance away from the Siem Reap Pub Street. The city, even with its lack of western food chains and restaurants, is surprisingly full of these massive luxury hotels right at its center. Our resort is one those.
OUR ROOM FOR THE NIGHT, HUGE BED! |
DELUXE CITY VIEW ROOM AT SOKHA ANGKOR RESORT |
After a quick chat with the hotel concierge, we were led up to the second floor of the hotel and on to our rooms. We were given a Deluxe City View Room and it has a huge bed. A really, really huge bed. The floors are parquet wood and the furnishings are on the rustic side. It has cable television, a mini-bar, coffee and tea facility, safety box, and the usual hotel thingamajigs.

SPACIOUS TOILET AND BATH, WITH TUB! |
The toilet and bath is spacious and with bath tub. We tried to ask the staff if they can provide us with soap or bath bombs for the tub, but they didn’t seem to know what the heck we were talking about.
THE HOTEL SPA, WITH COMPLIMENTARY PASS |
For hotel facilities, Sokha Angkor Resort has a restaurant, spa, fitness center, steam, Jacuzzi, sauna, beauty salon, and yes, a beautiful salt-water swimming pool. Pressed for time, the only ones we were able to utilize were their restaurant, spa—they have a 15-minute free massage for guests, and pool.
BUFFET BREAKFAST AT SOKHA ANGKOR RESORT |
Each guest is given a complimentary breakfast, and as is usual with five-star hotels, it’s a buffet. Most of the food choices were western and continental though. I’m quite happy with my bacons, but I wish they have more local flavors on the table.
SALTWATER POOL IS LOVE! |
And did I tell you that the best part of staying at Sokha Angkor Resort was their pool? Oh yeah I did.
The hotel’s swimming pool, surrounded by low frangipani trees, water gushing from a Banteay Srei door replica, is really nice. How nice? One of my companions asked us if we can just stay in the pool and not do the temple run anymore.
That nice.
