INDONESIA | The Golden Tulip Hotel Mataram in Lombok
Monday, October 24, 2016With tendrils of mists still sleeping along the ridges of trees below the silhouette of a graceful mountain, morning came to Mataram. My eyes was still encumbered by sleep after an almost all-nighter Bintang session with Filipino and Thai travelers at Golden Tulip’s pool patio, but I immediately pulled off the cobwebs of sleep when I saw the panorama unfolding right outside our floor to ceiling window.
GOLDEN TULIP’S SNAZZY LOBBY |
HIGH-CEILINGED HALLWAYS |
We were booked on the 8th floor of the Golden Tuilip Hotel in Lombok. We checked in right after visiting the Sasak Village Sade, still excited as we get to explore this part of Indonesia. After a quick registration at its spacious lobby, we were led to our Deluxe Queen Room [CHECK ROOM RATES & AVAILABILITY].
THE VIEW FROM OUR ROOM |
And yes, the first thing that caught our attention was the view. Being on the higher floor of the hotel, we had a commanding view of Lombok’s pastoral landscape. It was almost evening as we threw our luggage across the room and watched as the sun reluctantly gave way to darkness.
DELUXE QUEEN ROOM |
TOILET AND BATH |
Only after the landscape was swallowed by early evening did we start to appreciate the room; soft queen-sized bed, muted wall colors, dark wooden furnishing. The room is minimally decorated—I mean, the view is well enough on its own—but I like the headboard pattern reflecting Lombok’s culture.
LOVELY POOL AREA |
With a few hours of free time left before dinner, we headed down the pool area, gingerly holding a cup of coffee all the way from our room to enjoy outside. Well, we really wouldn’t have bothered if our room has a balcony, lol.
BUFFET AT MALIMBO RESTAURANT |
UNLIMITED BARBECUE |
The next day, we were able to enjoy Golden Tulip’s expansive in-house restaurant, the Malimbu, both for their complimentary breakfast buffet and a delicious barbecue dinner right after our Gili Island tour. Their food was quite good, serving both International and Indonesian cuisine on their plates.
BINTANG VERSUS SANG SOM |
We wanted to have a few bottles of beer right after, but after checking the nearby areas for a bar and finding none, we bought a carton of our own. And with A’s stash of Sang Som, we knew we’d be in for a lot of stories along Golden Tulip’s pool patio.
