PALAWAN | The Coron Public Market
Monday, January 10, 2011We arranged to meet with Avel Arevalo, our boatman, by 8am near the town’s market for our island tour. We’re gonna go pick us something to cook for lunch at the market for the day’s adventure before we head out to sea.
Coron’s public market was really not that big, around a tenth of the usual size of marketplaces found in Manila and as with municipalities near the sea, a bounty of assorted seafood line most of the stalls. The market itself is located right beside the breakwater.
Being alien with all things markety, I settled for produce that looked familiar. One vendor offered us a good-sized tuna for Php50.00, really cheap, we ended up buying two. We hunted for some red meat to pair it up with and got us a quarter kilo of pork liempo.
Some tomatoes, red eggs, bananas, rice, a jugfull of water and coals for cooking later and we were good to go. The whole lot cost us only Php560.00.
Time to hit those white sandy coves that I’ve been seeing on magazines for so long! Hello Coron!
