It was the sixth night of Lakbay Norte and everyone was already feeling the effect of non-stop traveling through the roads of north Luzon. After a full day of cruising through the Dawell River in Dagupan and speeding through the race tracks of Kart City Tarlac, the group called it a day and retired to the La Maja Rica Hotel.

This 40-room boutique hotel at the heart of Tarlac City was once a junkyard of sorts. Before the hotel, a half-century old warehouse once stood on its ground. The Pascual Family took notice of this and decided to transform the eyesore into something beautiful; the La Maja Rica Hotel.

The Mediterranean-styled hotel is a no-frills lodging house; the rooms are simple but aptly furnished, the beds are standard and the toilets clean. A kidney-shaped swimming pool can be seen from the open corridors and is available for guests. A bar is located right beside the atrium where live bands perform.
I spent my Lakbay Norte night at the bar, listening to the band and drinking beer while doing my daily notes. In hindsight, I should’ve dumped all my cameras and laptop in my room and should’ve gone swimming instead hehe.

La Maja Rica Hotel may not be as fanciful as the other hotels we’ve stayed in during our eight-day northern tour but it has all the basic things one needs for a restful night; a clean room, a nice soft bed and of course, wi-fi!
