NEGROS ORIENTAL | Breakfast at Qyosko Dumaguete
Wednesday, July 25, 2012We got lost in Dumaguete looking for an oddly named food place. Qyosko which I gather is a play on the word kiosk is not the easiest thing to ask a tricycle driver to locate and we got dropped twice on the wrong restaurant. I guess third try’s a charm and we finally found the 24-hour diner tucked in one of the less busier part of the city.
There weren’t much people eating inside as we entered its yellow portal. We secured a colorful table near the entrance and proceeded towards the counter for our orders. This place is more of an eatery than a fancy restaurant so customers are expected to pay as they go.
What differs Qyosko from other tapsi places are the range of their menu; they almost have everything, Filipino, American, Chinese; you name it. Their menu is chalked above the counter and prices range from as low as Php30.00 to Php225.00.
The diner’s interiors are also quite pleasing to the eye. Eclectically and colorfully furnished you’d almost expect a hefty price for their servings.
And right beside the diner is their posh-looking coffeehouse, Café Espresso, which was sadly closed during our visit.
For breakfast, we ordered the usual Filipino fare; tapsilog, tosilog and an addition of tortang talong and fried lumpiang togue which totaled Php160.00. Not bad eh?
Serving time was fairly fast, just enough time to take some photos and we got down to business right away.
The presentation’s so-so but the serving size was a bit on the heavy side, nice! However, as was to be expected from super-affordable food, everything was pretty ordinary. Just straight-up run-of-the-mill cafeteria food that would really do nothing for your taste palate but really just get you through the day.
For travelers on a budget looking for an affordable chow without the carinderia atmosphere, Qyosko is just the right place. And if you feel like checking your Facebook while digging down on your tapsilog, they even have wi-fi to boot.
