This is the most famous resort in Siquijor, our guide told us as he maneuvered his tricycle into the gates of Coco Grove. We’re still unsure where to book our three-day stay in the island and Kuya Joam was showing us around the various resorts circling Siquijor’s shoreline.

Passing a long cogon colonnade we were welcomed by a huge white parrot at the Coco Grove’s open-aired front desk. We did our inquiry, the cheapest room they have is priced at Php2,400.00; good for two persons, breakfast included. Not that pricey, but not cheap either. We decided to check out the resort first.

Coco Grove has an almost kilometer long beach front facing southwest. The cream-colored sand was pretty fine and the water was turquoise green. Only problem was the waves at that time were quite strong due to the southwesterly winds. It seemed we visited Siquijor at the wrong time, our guide says the beach here is the best during the early parts of the year up to the summer months.

If you feel like checking out the sights underneath its waters, the eastern part of the resort faces Tubod, a marine sanctuary where you can snorkel and even dive to your heart’s desire. They have a dive shop too where you can rent your gear. It’s just unfortunate that the waves were really too strong and visibility was bad when I tried to snorkel. I can’t even get that far as I kept being slammed back to the shore by the waves.

Open huts, hammocks and recliners litter the beach side; perfect for beach bumming. I can spend weeks here doing nothing.

The whole resort is covered by a dense canopy of trees and is even considered as a bird sanctuary. You can hear nothing but the rustling leaves against the wind, the crashing waves of the sea and the chirping of unnamed birds above.

The cottages are beautifully finished in fist-sized river stones topped with soaring cogon roofs. The architecture looks like a cross between Batanes’ stone houses and traditional Balinese architecture.

Coco Grove has two restaurants, the Sunset Restaurant located on its western side and the Salamandas Restaurant on its eastern side where you’d have to cross a fisherman’s village to get to. They also have a garden bar complete with a game room situated right in the middle of everything. Check my upcoming post regarding their food.

If you don’t feel like being rocked by waves, they also have swimming pools; two of them in fact. A beach side pool for lounging around and an Olympic-sized pool for serious business. I also found just now that they also have a natural spring tucked on a corner of their sprawling resort, too bad I wasn’t able to check this out while I was there.

Spread all over the huge property are the lodges; 64 rooms all in all; pretty impressive. For a more detailed look at their accommodations, please check my next post about this.

And if you think the resort is beautiful in the morning, wait ‘til nightfall, it transforms from beautiful to magical. Warm globes of light illuminate the trees overhead, the garden becomes a jungle and the pools appears like lighted springs surrounded by glowing trees, huts and recliners. And over the beach, the cool breeze of the sea moves with the twinkling stars overhead.

Need I say that we were totally convinced after touring the resort? We surrendered; lock, stock and two smoking barrels. We closed our eyes to their price and signed for a two-night stay.
