Didn't know that Iligan is a "City of Waterfalls"... dami pala. But unfortunately the city is being feared for its security and safety of visitors since it is a frequent site of military and rebel conflicts.

That's why we from the Iligan bloggers would like to change the image of how the Iligan City is described. The conflicts were in different places near Iligan but not in Iligan City itself. The statement "frequent site of military and rebel conflicts" is so not true. I wonder how frequent that is...source please?

Iligan City is such a beautiful place. It's sad that many choose not to explore what it has to offer due to unfounded fears of "frequent military and rebel conflicts."

Sad to say, Mindanao is greatly misunderstood. In a very large island, a conflict at one of its provinces is often considered to be a conflict in the WHOLE Mindanao.

Mindanao is beautiful. Mindanao is blessed. Mindanao is wonderful. And it's unfair to tag all of Mindanao as war-torn or violent or unsafe.

Iligan is suffering from a perception problem that's all.

"A friend of mine once said that when they hear of Mindanao, they would often imagine it as a vast jungle or forest where military and rebels come in combat. It must be a very exaggerated view but what the news and media is trying to portray is actually different when you come and visit to the Land of Promise - Mindanao."


My Singaporean friends came to visit us in Iligan last August to conduct an assessment for a project. The paragraph I quoted included their view of Mindanao Island itself. He shared to us how their views were changed. It does pay off to travel. They will be coming here with 20 other Singaporeans this December and hopes to spend their Christmas here in our beloved City. Hope you can visit us here in Iligan and surely you will know that it is indeed the Land of Promise. :)

Last April, my batchmates from the 38th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program which is represented by different Youth Ambassadors of the whole Philippines came to Iligan during the Gawad Kalinga Bayani Challenge 2012. They also experience what really is Iligan and how different it is from what the Media has reinforced for many years!


Hope to see you in Mindanao Soon! We can only believe what we hear and see. But to truthfully hear and see is to really hear and see it ourselves. :)

As a 5 time visitor to Iligan, from the other side of the world, the only " problem " I have is that my vacations there come to an end all too soon. As a matter of fact, best vacations I have ever had have been in Iligan City. It is unfortunate that Mindanao is said to have a lot of dark clouds over it but every cloud has a silver lining. Iligan is one of those silver linings of Mindanao. A place waiting to be discovered by the rest of the world.

Iligan City

This bad perception about Iligan and the rest of Mindanao is often based on biased media reports and lack of knowledge or information about the place. Iligan City is peaceful, beautiful and underrated.

I have been stalking this blog for quite sometime now. I was so surprised when I found out that he is among the participants of Waterfalling Adventure 1.0 that we organized...

"Frequent military and rebel conflict?" seriously that line raised all the hairs in my eyebrows to the highest level and along with that is my question, "How often is frequent?"

To answer that, let us remember that conflict happens everywhere in this world. That brings us to the idea that conflict is a normal occurrence. My point is how many people die each day in Manila compared to Iligan? I wake up each day watching news on tv...and obviously if we are to compare Manila has a higher crime rate compared to Iligan. If crimes happen in Iligan, I would say its just an isolated case and I am proud to say that everything is under control.

To those who spread misleading information's for Iligan City, I advise you to visit, discover and experience Iligan first before doing so...

This is what I miss in Iligan - the Waterfalls! I've been to Mimbalot and Tinago. Shet lang yung sa Tinago!!! 400++ steps pero once you're there, everything's worth it! Even tried to jump from the cliff!!! Sayaaaaaaa!

I agree, the blanket statement that Mindanao is dangerous is quite unfair. There are spots in Mindanao are indeed hotspots, but those are very small when viewed in general.

I have encountered nothing but kind and friendly people during my travels in Mindanao.
