The Diminutive Dalipuga Falls in Iligan City

Iligan’s Waterfalling Adventure Tour 1.0 ended the day before but the group still hasn’t gotten enough of those cascading watery things. For the past three days, we checked a total of six out of the twenty three accessible waterfalls in Iligan City—the Maria Cristina Falls, Tinago Falls, Mimbalot Falls, Dodiongan Falls, Pampam Falls, and Kalubihon Falls.

With most of the group still in Iligan, we decided to visit one more waterfall before calling it a day. The waterfall nominated for our visit, the eponymously named Dalipuga Falls.

The Hike to Dalipuga Falls in Iligan City

Dalipuga Falls is part of the three waterfalls that benefit from a stream running across barangay of the same name. It is the lowermost waterfall of the series, with Pampam Falls in the middle and Kalubihon Falls rising above the three. I won’t be surprised if there are more waterfalls running along this watercourse that’s still undiscovered.

Yellow Flowers along the Trail to Dalipuga Falls in Iligan City

The trek to Dalipuga Falls is a piece of cake compared to its siblings. From Dalipuga’s barangay hall, it’s about twenty to thirty minutes away. The trail is mostly flat with only a couple of mini ascents. The walk is quite pleasant, with lush flowery shrubs growing throughout the dirt path.

Somersaulting Kids at Dalipuga Falls in Iligan City

Kids hooting and hollering indicated that we were almost at the waterfalls. And as we arrived, a kid somersaulted from a single bamboo pole laid horizontally across the waterfalls and made a big splash around Dalipuga’s small catch basin.

Every one immediately took position and started snapping away with their cameras.

Dalipuga Falls is the smallest of the seven waterfalls we’ve visited in Iligan City. It’s around twelve to fifteen feet high, with a catch basin depth of only three to five feet. Its floor area isn’t that big either, it’s only about a fourth of a basketball court. Still, it was enough for all of us to dip and swim in comfortably.

Jumping Kids at Dalipuga Falls in Iligan City

There are two jumping areas in the waterfall. One through a six-foot boulder off the right side of falls where the horizontal bamboo is connected and the other is through a ledge above the waterfalls. Not a few of the kids were soaring like bombs from the high ledge; I guess they know where to dive since the basin below is pretty shallow.

One can also have a pretty good back hydro massage at Dalipuga Falls. You’d think it’s pretty small, but just wait ‘till you get under its rushing cascades.

Size matters when it comes to waterfalls, but the smaller ones like Iligan’s Dalipuga Falls should also not be ignored especially if you’re looking for a more relaxing experience. As long as there’s a jumping area, as long as the water is crystal clear, and as long as you’re with good company, any old waterfall is good enough.
