METRO MANILA | Christmas Lights Sparkle at TriNoma Mall
Sunday, November 24, 2013Three! Two! One! The countdown ended and the lights dimmed. Christmas carols softly chimed from hidden speakers and the mall’s garden atrium filled with fog. All at once, colorful Christmas lights started to sparkle, filling the whole place with that fuzzy holiday feeling. TriNoma Mall officially starts their Christmas Season with their Merry Musical Lights.
It was a Saturday and mall day started with scouring bookstores for bargain reads—National Bookstore, Powerbooks, Fully Booked, and not to forget, Books and Mags (₱29.00 books FTW!). A couple of dusty books later and we’re off to an early dinner at the Mercato of the north, Mezza Norte.

The garden atrium of TriNoma was getting ready for the annual Merry Musical Lights as we passed it on our way back to the mall. Now on its second year, it’s a good alternative for people residing north of the metro to the Ayala Triangle Enchanting Lights and Sounds Show.
Opening the event was the UP Concert Chorus. The group, dressed in blacks with gold flourishes, caroled the crowd with Filipino Christmas favorites. Excellent performance!

Nikki Gil soon followed. My friend, who knows I really don’t watch that much TV, told me that she’s an artista from the Kapamilya network. Aha. Pretty gal. I was trying to catch if she’s lip-synching through the Christmas songs but it looks like the real deal.
Alright, pretty gal with a very nice voice then.

And then it was time for the Merry Musical Lights!
The lights were dimmed and the fog machine did its magic. The atrium was soon filled with billowing mist just as the carols started to chime in. Thousands of lights started their merry dance in reds, yellows, blues, and greens.
Playing along to English and Filipino instrumental Christmas classics such as Joy to the World and Mano Po, Ninong, the lights suddenly made mall-goers stop in their tracks, look up, and watch the dancing lights. Kids in particular were enchanted by the glowing light show.
The view from the second level of TriNoma was good, but I was thinking the Merry Musical Lights show would be best seen from above. It lasts for about ten minutes, running up to see it from the highest level of the mall would definitely have us missing a big chunk of the show.
Instead, we waited for the second run of the light show. And indeed, it looked much more magnificent from above. Hmmm… But I think it also looks good if seen from the lowest level of the mall. Good thing TriNoma’s Merry Musical Lights runs three times daily, I’ll wait for the last show of the night!
