ANTIQUE TRAVEL GUIDE | Itinerary + Budget + Map [UPDATED 2022]
Monday, June 27, 2022More than its tourist spots, Antique Province is known more for its legendary folklore of aswang and mananangal creatures. Those mythical legends probably have kept tourists from pouring in to the province, making Antique one of the most unexplored places in the Philippines. But during my brief visit to this off-beat province, I found places, culture, and eco activities that are at par with any famous tourist spots in the Philippines. Allow me to welcome you and peel the mystery behind the province of Antique.
UNDERSTAND ANTIQUE
Antique Province is located on the full western side of Panay Island in Western Visayas. It faces the Sulu Sea on the west, and is bordered by the provinces of Aklan, Iloilo, and Capiz on the east. Its capital is San Jose de Buenavista, but for the purpose of this travel guide, we’ll be basing our adventure from the town of Tibiao since it’s more central to the tourist spots we’d be exploring.
HOW TO GET TO ANTIQUE
Currently, there are no direct flights to the province but there are two ways to fly in to Antique from Metro Manila and Cebu City—from Iloilo and Aklan (via Kalibo or Caticlan). It can also be accessed by ferry, although you’d also have to pass through Iloilo or Aklan.

HOW TO GET AROUND ANTIQUE
The main mode of transportation in Antique is the tricycle. Minimum fare is at ₱10.00 per person. There are also jeeps and buses that ply the National Highway, and habal-habal motorcycles for interior roads, but these are few and far between. Actually, even the tricycles are not that plenty. Public transport isn’t really that developed in Antique yet.
SPEAK ANTIQUE
Kinaray-a is the local dialect in Antique, one of the thirteen most spoken dialects in the country. Cuyanon, Caluyanon, Hilagaynon, Ati, and Cebuano are also spoken. Most locals, however, know how to speak Filipino and English.

ORGANIZED TOURS IN ANTIQUE
While tourism is fairly new in Antique and most tourists and travelers visit the province using the DIY or do-it-yourself method, there are a couple of packaged tour outfits that make it easier and more convenient in exploring the area. In my opinion, due to the lack of public transport in the province, this is the easiest and most convenient way of exploring Antique Province.

WHERE TO STAY IN ANTIQUE
There are only a handful of places to stay in at Antique. I haven’t seen any big hotels in the province although there are inns, hostels, and resorts in the area. The most common mode of accommodation are homestays. Overnight rates are quite cheap, starting at roughly ₱400.00, but at that price, don’t expect an air-conditioned room.

WHERE TO EAT IN ANTIQUE
If fancy restaurants and cuisine are what you’re looking for, then this province might not be for you. Places to eat in Antique consist mostly of eateries and carinderias. There are a few restaurants in the area but they’re mostly inside resorts. For street food, besides the usual pork barbecue and isaw stalls that pop up in the afternoon, there’s not much chow in that department too.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN ANTIQUE
For a sleepy province, there are surprisingly a lot of things to do in Antique—the place is more of an eco-adventure and cultural place than for sight-seeing. One can visit historic places, island beaches, and resorts, but Antique’s real draw are its rafting, hiking, island hopping, diving, and local industry immersion.

FESTIVALS IN ANTIQUE
Antique Province celebrates the Binirayan Festival every December—coinciding with the Christmas Celebration. Binirayan means “where they sailed to” and it celebrates the Legend of Maragtas—the ten Bornean Datus that landed on the island of Panay.
It opens with a fluvial parade in Malandog Beach in Hamtic, followed by pageants, parades and cultural shows, trade expos, traditional folk theaters, street dancing, Malay-ati (ati-atihan) competition, and the Antique International Marathon.
WHAT TO BUY IN ANTIQUE
I didn’t see a single souvenir shop during my visit to Antique, so if you’re into ref magnets and key chains, cross that off your list of things to bring back home. You can, however, buy more legit pasalubongs in the form of buri and patadyong textile products.

ANTIQUE TOURIST SPOTS MAP
ANTIQUE SAMPLE ITINERARY & BUDGET EXPENSES
The province of Antique consists of eighteen towns. It is a big province and in all probability, a lot of places are still unexplored in terms of tourism. I’m basing this four-day itinerary on the tour I made of Antique via Katahum Tours. For this Antique itinerary, we’ll enter via Iloilo and have our base of operation, or lodging, in the town of Tibiao.
We used a van to navigate the province on our tour, but for this itinerary, I used Antique’s public transports. Note that the first day is a running tour—meaning, you won’t be checking in to your lodging until you reach it by the end of the day. If you’re not using a backpack and lugging a suitcase around, this might not be possible to achieve.
For the Seco Island tour, the best and most economical way to do it is to join an organized tour via Katahum Tours. Actually, if you really want convenience, I suggest that you do the whole Antique tour via Katahum since public transportation isn’t really that reliable in Antique.
If you have an additional day, I suggest that you visit the Antique Rice Terraces in San Remegio.
If you’re planning on entering or exiting via Aklan, you also might want to include the Bugang River Tour and visit the Malumpati Cold Spring.

Deletehow much does this antique tour cost per person? or as a whole
ReplyDeleteHi Von, better contact Katahum Tours as I posted above :)
DeleteHi, Von.
ReplyDeleteFrom your sample itinerary, please transfer the Malalison Island visit to 2nd day, most of the places included were from the southern part of the province and Culasi where the island is part of, is a good 3-4 hours' drive from San Jose, capital municipality.
Hello. Wow. Thank you so much for appreciating Antique, my beloved province. I hope your first tour in Antique wont be your last. Again, thank you so much! Godbless!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely won't be our last, we still have a lot of places left to visit in Antique!
DeleteCan you share some details po? :) From Kalibo Airport if we'll take a van, will we be dropped at Tigbao? Mahirap ba mag-commute from Tigbao back to Kalibo Airport?
ReplyDeleteHow much po ung accommodation sa Zipline Inn? May malapit din ba na zipline? How long is ung travel time from zipline inn to kayak inn? May kainan po ba sa kayak inn and sa zipline inn? Thanks!!
Hi silent_zhax, as posted above, accommodations at Zipline Inn starts at Php500.00, last I checked. Regarding your other question, I haven't personally tried going to Antique via Kalibo, but I tried going from Antique to Kalibo, from my experience on that end, it's not that hard a commute.
DeleteYes, the zipline is close to the Zipline Inn, walking distance. Yes, they serve food at Zipline Inn :)

ReplyDeletehindi kasama dito malumpati health spring un pa naman gusto ko puntahan from caticlan any tips and fare thx
ReplyDeleteHi Jude, sorry I haven't been to Malumpati Health Spring. Will include it on future updates :)
DeleteMay mga jeep po from caticlan papuntang Pandan, Antique. Or better, ask a konduktor to drop you near the Munisipyo or People's Park. May mga tricycle jan na nag'ooffer papuntang Malumpati Cold Spring. I dont know how much the exact fare from caticlan to antique. 100php naman singil ng mga tricycle driver. 20php entrance fee sa spring. cottage fee ranges from 20-50php depending kung gaano kalaki.
DeleteThank you for this very useful info.
ReplyDeleteNo problem Raine! Enjoy Antique! :)
DeleteThank you for sharing the details. I just want to correct the location/address of Bugtong Bato Falls - it's Brgy. Tuno, Tibiao, Antique not Importante, Tibiao, Antique. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Jaybeth! Thank you so much for that info, updated the guide :)
DeleteHello! Is there a direct ride from iloilo to antique? If then, how much is the fare?
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is a direct ride. You need to transfer at Molo Terminal
DeleteHi Christian,
ReplyDeleteHow long po yun ride from Iloilo airport to Molo Terminal?
Are there buses/vans, to and from, round-the-clock?
Thanks! :)
The ride takes about 30 minutes to an hour :)
DeleteVan po. Mga nasa 35-45mins. Airport to molo terminal. 50-75 pesos ang fare.

ReplyDeleteWill update this with an Antique tavel budget guide soon
Deletehello hindi n active cell no. sa malumpati spring resort, sau nalang ako mgtatanong mula caticlan to malumpati mgkno ang fare sa bus or van salamat... arthur
ReplyDeleteHi Arthur, I haven't been to Malumpati Spring Resort yet, so I can't really answer.
DeleteCaticlan ato Malumpati, you can ride the bus with Iloilo signboard. more than an hour trip ciguro. most of the popular attractions in Antique is northern part so travelling from Kalibo or Caticlan is the most practical instead of from Iloilo which is souther part. by the way there are also UV express vans.
Deletewhen is the best time to go in Antique?
ReplyDeleteSummer is always a good time to visit beach areas :)
DeleteDoes the sample itinerary legit? If yes, I would like to request the tour package. Please reply as soon as possible, thank you and God bless!!
ReplyDeleteHi Nick, I suggest you contact Katahum tours for the Antique tour package
DeleteWe are planning to visit Antique po this coming Palarong Pambansa..from mindoro po kami, mga magkano po kami estimated na magagastos namin if magstay kami for 5 days?
ReplyDeleteHi Rowena, I advise going to the Katahum website for the tour cost. As foe the lodging, Antique has mostly homestays so it's very affordable
DeleteHi Christian, Which way is more practicable and economical, via Caticlan from Manila or via Iloilo City from Manila? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI think it's about the same, more or less :)
Deletehello what is near to pandan antique ? kalibo airport or caticlan airport? thank you :)
ReplyDeleteCaticlan Airport is nearer Pandan :)
DeleteIs it possible to have daytour for malumpati and kawa hot and back to boracay?
ReplyDeleteFor Malumpati, yes it is possible to visit it on a half day tour from Boracay. But if you're gonna add the Kawa Hot Bath to your itinerary, it might take more than a day. :)
Deleteare there any bus/vans from Caticlan to Culasi, Antique if we leave Boracay at 7pm?
