HONG KONG | Cosmo Hotel at Wan Chai
Thursday, February 25, 2016Wan Chai District’s skyscrapers rose into view as I parted the drapes inside our room. We quickly prepared coffee and tea, then sat at the bay window for a few minutes—taking in the view, looking forward to our first full day in Hong Kong. It was a marvelous sight. I quickly whipped out my phone after finishing my coffee, snapped a photo, and connected to the hotel’s complimentary Wi-Fi Internet. Instagram time.
WALKING TO COSMO HOTEL AT WAN CHAI AREA. A TIP, BRING A BACKPACK INSTEAD. |
From the relative quiet of Hum Hong area in Kowloon, we transferred to Wan Chai to switch hotels. Though we were very much satisfied with our stay at Hotel Sav Hong Kong, We wanted a much more happening place. And Wan Chai area, part of the larger Wan Chai District, fits the bill perfectly.

COSMO HOTEL’S LOBBY, QUITE FUNKY, IF I MIGHT SAY SO |
Cosmo Hotel would be our four-star lodging for the night. Located on the quieter parts of Queen’s Road East, it is near enough to the Wan Chai Market and Fleming Road for it to be interesting. A Muslim cemetery is also located just within its vicinity, although we were unable to explore it after our massive twelve-hour DIY Hong Kong walk the day we checked in.
LOVING THE COMBINATION OF COLORS |
Classified as a boutique hotel, Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong is surprisingly huge. It has a total of 142 rooms set on 23 floors. The design is modern chic; subtly-patterned walls, clean lines, pastel-colored modern furnishing. At the lobby, the restaurant is opened by a pivoted wall, something I’ve never seen before.

NO ROOM NUMBERS ON THE DOORS, THEY’RE ON THE FLOOR INSTEAD |
OUR EXECUTIVE ROOM AT COSMO HOTEL HONG KONG |
EN SUITE TOILET AND BATH |
We were booked at their Executive Room, which was quite spacious for Hong Kong standards. It has a queen-sized bed, flatscreen cable TV, coffee-making facilities, and an en suite toilet and bath—they have no bidet though, which seems to be the norm in Hong Kong.

THE PATIO AT THE FIFTH FLOOR OF COSMO HOTEL |
When not in our room, our hang out place is usually at the fifth floor open-aired lounge area dubbed as The Patio. It doesn’t have a swimming pool, but it does have a coffee machine and a fruit basket that magically gets refilled every time. This is where we plan our non-plans for the day.
OUR FAVORITE COMPLIMENTARY SMARTPHONE FROM COSMO HONG KONG |
The best part of staying at Cosmo Hotel, besides its great location, is the complimentary smartphone they loan out to visitors. Besides its 3G Internet connection, it has built in apps detailing places in Hong Kong. One can also place a call to nine different countries, free of charge—the Philippines is not included though. What we usually do is, we simply open its Internet connection and tether over our own phones to it and we’re ready to explore the streets of Hong Kong.
