I don’t like sweet things but sometimes I just have to give in, especially if everyone in your group wants to have desserts right after meals. And so it went that after our fantastic Asian lunch at the Mian Restaurant in Marriott Manila, we—or should I say—my companions hurriedly trotted to the nearby Crema café right at the lobby of the same building. I slowly followed, nursing my still full tummy.

THE PERFECT PLACE TO LOUNGE ABOUT, PREFERABLY WITH A GOOD BOOK

CREMA’S SWANKY INTERIORS

Crema opened last 2014 and is located on the ground floor left wing of Marriott’s Grand Ballroom. The place opens right up to the lobby and is tastefully furnished with comfortable loungers, chairs, and low tables. We decided to seat ourselves on the less formal built-in couch lining the windows overlooking the streets of Resorts World Manila.

Quickly scanning their counter I can see that Crema offers mostly coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. Their menu is divided into nine sections—sandwiches, muffins and rolls, cakes, cookies, coffee, tea, soda, and smoothies. Price range goes for Php65.00 (cookies), up to Php280.00 (sandwiches).

GRILLED CHICKEN CEASAR SALAD WRAP SANDWICH ~ PHP 270.00

I let my eating buddies go crazy over the sweet stuff while I checked Crema’s three lonely sandwiches on the menu. Eventually, I chose their Breakfast Sandwich—which has smoked ham, egg, and gruyere cheese—and their Grilled Chicken Ceasar Salad Wrap Sandwich, while my companions ordered almost the whole darn menu. Cute sweet cakes and pastries quickly overwhelmed our table!

The grilled chicken wrap was surprisingly very good, considering I’m really not into wraps and salads, but their breakfast sandwich was even better. The bun was very soft, the ham—flavorful and tender, and the egg perfectly complementing everything. I washed the sandwiches down with a cup of their hot Caramel Macchiato.

FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE FEUILLETINE ~ PHP 250.00

My tummy was literally filled to brimming but my companions wouldn’t let me off without tasting the cakes they ordered. Surprise, surprise, I actually liked one!

Crema’s Flourless Chocolate Feuilletine, with its layers of different choco flavors won me over. And even though I can barely eat anymore, I was able to stuff a couple of forkfuls into my mouth before retiring like someone who just ran through two buffet restaurants in one go.

Would I recommend Crema? For people with a sweet tooth, definitely yes. For guys like me who’s really not into anything sweet, well, there’s the sandwiches and coffee, lol.
