We rose before the sun. From our airy veranda, we sipped on our morning coffee as we watched the morning get lit from the east.  The leaves were painted with gold and the sea excitedly sparkled with the incoming day. We took a walk, passing off the breakfast buffet waiting for us at the restaurant for the moment, and strolled out to the elevated wooden deck lining the shoreline of the resort, savoring the fresh Langkawian morning as we went along.

Century Langkawi Beach Resort (formerly Four Points by Sheraton) became our second home in Langkawi. After experiencing the not-so-busy city life in Kuah by staying at Hotel Bahagia, we wanted a more rustic setting for the second half of our stay on the island. This place was just what we were looking for.

The resort sprawls on a fourteen-hectare area on the hilly side of Pantai Kok. It has its own beach—well, the whole resort fronts the sea—and our very own villa is located right by the water. Century Langkawi is so huge, a dedicated transport is provided for guests transferring between their villas and other parts of the resort.

We were lodged at their Seafront Room Villa, a traditional Malay wooden bungalow, set deep inside the resort. It was quite a ways away from the lobby so we usually utilize the 4x4 trucks they use to haul guests around.

Our room is super spacious, and with a wooden motif, it somehow looks like a log cabin of sorts. Very rustic, if I may say so myself. From the foyer (yes, it has a foyer!), steps lead down to the main bedroom area where a king-size bed awaited us. Right beside it is a mini living room, with a comfy sofa and a center table (for, beer?). And beyond that, my favorite place, the balcony overlooking the sea.

It has all the room amenities we needed for a comfortable stay; a mini-bar, electronic safe, working table (yes, we do need to work), and a more than spacious toilet and bath. I like how they made the bath tub with a wooden window opening up to the main bedroom, tee hee!

We slept fitfully right by the breezy balcony during our first afternoon at Century Langkawi Beach Resort, a bit drunk after our midday beer session at Pantai Cenang, haha. It was almost sunset when we woke, heading straight to their infinity pool to wash our minor hang-over away.

The resort has an in-house restaurant, which is as expected, a bit on the pricey side. Unfortunately, if you’re trying to scrimp on food, this is not the place to be as there are hardly any warung or cheap restaurants along the area. Good thing we still have some left-over KFC chickens and another carton of Skol beer, so we weren’t really worried about spending ringgits over dinner.

We, however, came back with a vengeance the next morning at Century Langkawi’s complimentary breakfast buffet. The restaurant is halal certified but they do have bacons, only they’re made of beef, which is good enough for me. Besides, they have a lot more to offer, like noodles and pastries on the sides.

And for four days, the resort became part of our Langkawian routine; walk along the beach after waking, breakfast at the restaurant, tour around Langkawi, come back in the afternoon for siesta, swim by the pool, drink until the wee hours of the evening. Our second home indeed.
