AKLAN | Boracay West Cove, Romantic Sunset Dinner
Monday, September 11, 2017From a lackluster afternoon sky, the heavens slowly flared into deep reds and fiery oranges, the waters reflecting the fire above. We watched from a rock outcrop near Balinghai Beach, elevated fifteen feet from the waters, bottles of beer in hand temporarily forgotten as the lightshow commenced; Boracay’s famous sunset has never failed us yet.
BORACAY WEST COVE’S UNUSUAL GAUDI-ESQUE FACADE |
It was an unexpected invitation. We were lounging at the White Beach, our tummies full from the feast at Obama Grill, when we were told a sunset cocktail awaited us at Boracay West Cove. We’re all too familiar with the resort, with its white Gaudi-esque facade, from our numerous Boracay island hopping escapades, but we can only afford to have a passing glimpse of the exclusive resort from tour boats.
BALINGHAI BEACH AS SEEN FROM THE RESORT |
Located in between Diniwid Beach and Balinghai Beach, there are three ways to get there. The quicker one is via a boat ride where you’ll dock at Balinghai, the slower one, by a van or tricycle ride from the island’s main road, and the slowest one, by walking through Boracay White Beach to Diniwid Beach. We took the second option. The ride’s easy enough from the road, but once you get on the narrow dirt track going to the resort, it gets quite rough.
PADDLE BOARDERS DURING SUNSET |
Boracay West Grove has a total of twenty four rooms laid out vertically on a hill facing Boracay’s waters. We could just imagine how beautiful the view is from each room, but well, we weren’t here to bed down, we’re here to enjoy the sunset with wine Red Horse beer in hand.
THE CRISOSTOMO BAR AND RESTAURANT |
The resort actually offers day tours for outside guests, most of which visit after finishing their Boracay tour. They impose a fee of PHP500.00, consumable at their Crisostomo Bar & Restaurant. Meals are a bit expensive, but your entrance fee can buy you at least a clubhouse sandwich plus drinks.
ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO SEE THE SUNSET IN BORACAY |
What tourists flock this place for really is the premium view. Set several feet above four natural rocks jutting out of the sea floor, the open-aired restaurant is one of the best places to view Boracay’s sunset sans the crowd. And what a sunset we were given that day.
WHAT A SHOW WE HAD THAT DAY |
The restaurant starts to fill up at around five in the afternoon, so if you want the best table, arrive at least around thirty minutes earlier. Us, we went quite early. We roamed around the facilities, my friends taking numerous selfies as we went along.
CLIFF JUMPING AT BORACAY WEST COVE | A PASSING YACHT DURING SUNSET |
We saw not a few guests swimming on the waters right below the resort, and we would’ve joined too, if only we were wearing swimming attires! The area looks like a good spot for snorkeling with fishes and coral formations clear from our vantage—we were told there’s a shoal of squids that frequent the area. There’s also a jumping platform on one of the natural rock monoliths and some guests were brave enough to jump fifteen feet into the air and into the sea below. Looks like fun!
HEALTHY OPTIONS |
BEEF STROGANOFF |
SIZZLING SISIG, ONE OF THE BEST I’VE HAD! |
We stayed on ‘til dinner, chugging down bottles upon bottles of beer along with plates of kebab, salad, beef stroganoff, pork salpicao, and sisig. When visiting, if you’re into spicy food, forget about the clubhouse sandwich and get the sisig. It’s one of the best ones I’ve ever had and it goes perfectly well with beer and the sunset!

Ang mahal ng P500! Which would you recommend though: Balinghai o Diniwid?
ReplyDeleteHaha, the entrance fee is consumable naman, pero oo nga, it is a bit expensive for regular peeps. Balinghai is a bit harder to access than Diniwid, so I'll go for Diniwid Beach :D
DeleteShet naman yung sunset! Everything really takes on the hues! Also, gusto ko matikman yung sisig.
ReplyDeleteWest Cove Boracay's sisig is the best! Lalo na with beer :)
But i agree, 500 for a clubhouse and a drink. Expensive. But again, plus the view and the stay and experience. Pwede na din! :D
ReplyDeleteOr, get the West Cove's sisig instead! :D
DeleteIt offers the best of Boracay. Filipino hospitality at its beat. The view, breath taking... you wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree, one of the best places to view Boracay's sunsets
