VIETNAM | Romantic Riverside Dinner at Villa Song Saigon
Tuesday, June 30, 2015We rode a speedboat to get to our dinner. Yes, we did. After our Cu Chi Tunnels tour, from the mad bedlam of downtown Ho Chi Minh, we took a cab to the Cau Mong Pier, sauntered over to the boardwalk, and plunked our bottoms on the plush seats of a fancy speedboat. We roared across the calm waters of Saigon River, holding on to the railings at the sides while enjoying the afternoon scenery. It was over too soon, our boat slowing down on what looks like a grand white mansion facing the waters.
VILLA SONG SAIGON’S ELEGANT FACADE |
WHILE WAITING AT THE LOBBY |
Located at the District Two of Ho Chi Minh, the vibe at Villa Song Saigon was as far away as can be from the bustle of the city (they have complimentary boat rides to the city). The place is very romantic and serene. The main structure, a Victorian-esque building, holds twenty three unique rooms for guests wanting some quiet and privacy.
THE ART SUITE VIEW ROOM |
We checked a few of its rooms while our dinner was being prepared. The Art Suite River View Room [CHECK DISCOUNTED RATES & AVAILABILITY] made quite an impression. The design, like its facade, is tasteful done. Its plain matte yellow walls a background for its plank dark wood floorings, classic wooden furnishings, and recessed circular lighting at the center of the room.
REALLY SPACIOUS TOILET AND BATH |
THE BEST PART OF THE ROOM |
The toilet and bath is equally impressive, and well furnished too! But the best part of the room is the veranda overlooking the garden and the Saigon River beyond. The rest of the boutique hotel looked quite fancy and very expensive as well. Definitely too expensive for the lot of us, lol.
SIMPLE YET ELEGANT INTERIORS |
BISTRO SONG VIE, VILLA SONG’S IN-HOUSE RESTAURANT |
We were then led to Villa Song Saigon’s Bistro Song Vie, their in-house restaurant, but we were not about to waste the view by dining inside, we chose to have our dinner al fresco at their garden area.
MUC CHIEN GION ~ VND 110,000.00 | USD 5.12 |
TUNA TARTARE ~ VND 250,000.00 | USD 11.62 |
THIT HEO RIM TOM ~ VND 155,000.00 | USD 7.20 |
CA RI DE ~ VND 270,000.00 | USD 12.55 |
KOREAN BBQ BEEF SHORT RIBS ~ VND 410,000.00 | USD 19.00 |
Soon, a plethora of Vietnamese, with a few International and Asian dishes thrown in the mix, started to fill our table; Song Vie seafood soup, muc chien gion (fried baby squid), goi ga la chanh (chicken salad leaves in lemon), tuna tartare, bun thit nuong (grilled pork in vermicelli noodles), thit heo rim tom (caramelized pork belly and shrimp), steamed fillet of grouper, Korean BBQ beef short ribs, and ca ri de (curry goat). We were four in the group and even then, it was way too much for us!
GOI GA LA CHANCH ~ VND 180,000 | USD 8.37 |
All the dishes looked quite delicious and well styled; I was suppressing myself from drooling as they were being laid on our table. And soon enough (alright, it wasn’t too soon for me), after minutes of taking photos, it was time to eat!
ROMANTIC RIVERSIDE DINNER AT VILLA SONG SAIGON |
While everything was good, Villa Song’s bun thit nuong and thit heo rim tom stood out for me. Yes, you can definitely get these on the many food vendors along the streets of Vietnam, but nothing beats having it on a swanky hotel right by the river as the sun was setting. Perfect for couples wanting a bit of romance with their food.

DeleteLove the French colonial inspired ba yan na architecture. Plus added points sa view from the balcony.
ReplyDeleteYes, Villa Song Saigon's architecture seems inspired by Vietnam's French colonial past.
