INDONESIA | Rama Beach Resort & Villas ~ Three Nights of Pure Bliss in Bali
Sunday, August 23, 2015It was past ten in the evening when we arrived at our lodging. The resort was peacefully quiet, the moon rising in full, as our Balinese hosts led us to our villas overlooking the pool. Rama Beach Resort was our first taste of Bali. It was literally the place we went to directly after flying from Kota Kinabalu, Bali being the third leg of our ASEAN Summer Loop trip.
RAMA BEACH RESORT & VILLAS AT BALI’S SOUTH KUTA AREA |
Set on two hectares of sprawling land ten minutes away from the Ngurah Rai International Airport, the four-star resort has 104 rooms for tourists wanting to experience the Beaches of Bali and the island’s unique cuisine. Of the six room types, five are on detached villas—which we were lucky enough to be billeted in.
A PAVILION IN FRONT OF OUR VILLA |
We were quite impressed as we opened the door to our Premier Deluxe Cottage [CHECK DISCOUNTED RATES]. The villa, which we guessed was huge, was indeed very spacious, but we weren’t expecting it to be this spacious! It was like a small house—the only thing missing was a working kitchen.
PREMIER DELUXE COTTAGE |
Finished in whites and natural wood, a king-size bed stands proud in the central area surrounded by a workstation, a forty two-inch flatscreen Smart TV, closets, and a small table filled with complimentary fruits. I especially love the bay window where they put in a comfy couch, a relaxing and cozy area to curl up in and read a book. The mini-bar and the tea and coffee-making facilities are located on the foyer, making it like a mini-kitchen of sorts.
DIGGING THE FINISH OF THE TOILET AND BATH |
Rama’s toilet and bath isn’t to be left behind. It has an anteroom cum walk-in closet where the his and hers lavatory is located before the black and white affair of the main chamber greets you. Everything’s very stylish, indeed.
COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST, THEY HAVE BACONS! |
The next day found us rising quite late, barely missing the buffet spread at the Dewi Shinta Restaurant. The dishes were a mix of Balinese and Western, and they have bacons. Crispy delectable bacons. Yum!
THE DEWI SHINTA IN-HOUSE RESTAURANT |
We were also able to try out a few ala carte meals at this restaurant for dinner later that night, sampling their Balinese Meal Set which comprises of a Hot & Sour Prawn Soup (spicy and sour soup filled with prawn and tofu), Nasi Goreng Jawa (Javanese wok fried rice with crispy chicken, chicken sate and fried egg), and an Indonesian Sweet of the Day for dessert, which turns out to be a very western chocolate cake, lol.
THE NEARBY JERMAN BEACH |
The resort is close to one of the quieter beaches in Kuta, Jerman Beach. So, after tiring of the pool, we decided to actually walk along the sea. Which was a really bad idea, as it turned out at the time—midday in Bali is unbelievably swelteringly hot. We went back to the comforts of the pool after being burned to a crisp at the beach.
CELEBRATING THE PURNAMA INSIDE THE RESORT |
Later that afternoon, we got to partake on Bali’s Purnama or Full Moon Ceremony with the staff on the temple grounds right inside the resort. The ceremony, where they believe that gods descend to earth to give blessings, is quite important, being celebrated only twice a year. We helped sending in offerings—all sorts of goodies from fruits to cakes. And the best part was, we got to take the cake back with us!
EXPERIENCING A TWO-PERSON MASSAGE AT RAMA SPA |
On our last day, we were invited to try out the resort’s traditional Balinese massage at the Rama Spa. They dub it as the Ancestral Balinese Massage, an ancient form of spiritual and physical rejuvenation. We were delighted to find out that we were gonna get massaged by two masseuse at the same time. Unfortunately, I was left with two guys, all the gals were already taken! Talk about awkward, lol. It was, nevertheless, one of the best massage I’ve ever had.
THE IRRESISTIBLE POOL AREA |
To say that we’ve had a good time at this resort is an understatement. Rama Beach Resort isn’t really the best place to spend your first days in Bali, it’s just too darn beautiful and irresistible that it was so hard to get off our behinds and actually go out and explore the island.
