AKLAN | Ferra Hotel & Garden Suites Review ~ Your New Home In Boracay
Sunday, October 09, 2022“Go and say good morning to your friends, A.” So goes our usual morning conversation with our two-year old son as we exit our room to have breakfast. Those said friends aren’t from the Team RH crew—who also flew to Boracay, the moment they learned we were there—but the Ferra Hotel & Garden Suites Boracay’s staff, who have genuinely became our son’s friends while on the island.
FERRA HOTEL & GARDEN SUITES REVIEW WHAT’S INSIDE? • Location • Room Types • Brick & Basil Restaurant • Rooftop Bar & Infinity Pool • Improvements & Recommendation • Final Thoughts • BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE |
FERRA HOTEL & GARDEN SUITES FACADE |
We have previously stayed at the original Ferra Hotel Boracay—which they have now renamed Ferra Premier—and it was our first time to stay at this new branch. While both hotels sport the same modern chic look, this new one is a lot more gardenish—with plant motifs and actual greens spread throughout its rooms and spaces. Very refreshing.
CONVENIENT LOCATION
CREATIVE HALLWAY DESIGN |
Ferra Hotel & Garden Suites Boracay is located on the same street as Ferra Premier, in fact, it’s literally just a few hop away. It isn’t a beach front hotel but it is near enough to both Bulabog Beach (four minutes by foot) and the popular Boracay White Beach (seven minutes by foot), that we really didn’t mind not staying on a beach front resort.
MODERN AND CHIC INTERIORS |
Besides those, it’s also near various types of restaurants—be it Filipino, Japanese, Korean—fast food places like McDonald’s and Andok’s, affordable eateries, and Boracay carinderias—for those with tight budget. I also like the fact that it’s just a hop away from the infamous Two Brown Boys restobar, which is an excellent place to get burgers—and right after, a fun bar to drink the night away.
WELL-APPOINTED ROOMS
FERRA GARDEN SUITE |
This mid-range boutique hotel has a total of forty three rooms divided into ten room types—the Superior King (1 king bed), Superior Queen (1 queen bed), Deluxe King (1 king bed), Deluxe Queen (1 queen bed), Superior Twin (1 single and 1 double beds), Deluxe Twin (2 queen beds), Garden Suite (1 king bed), Suite with Garden View (1 king bed), Junior Suite (2pax), and Corner Suite (1 queen bed, 1 day bed).
FERRA GARDEN DELUXE TWIN ROOM |
These are situated on four floors with elevator available for access. The premium garden rooms are located on the ground floor—these are the ones with open-air garden showers and bath tubs. These are really gorgeous, the only thing is they’re located right beside the lobby and the in-house restaurant, which can get really busy during breakfast hours.
OUR ROOM FOR EIGHT NIGHTS, FERRA SUITE WITH GARDEN VIEW |
Depending on you, this can actually be a good thing—since access is very easy, no need to go upstairs to fetch something you forgot. Or a negative thing—since it is less private and it can get noisy during busy hours. In our experience, since we stayed on their Suite with Garden View, the noise is actually not that bad and very tolerable—it’s not enough to wake you up although you can definitely hear the clinks of utensils on plates and muffled conversations during breakfast.
OUTDOOR BATHTUB AND SHOWER AREA |
We stayed for eight days in Ferra and our room was quite apt for our needs. The cabinets and storage were ample enough to hold all of our stuff—clothes, canned goods, and baby stuff. The room was also so spacious that we’re even able to set up a temporary play area for A. And during the times that we didn’t feel like eating at Brick & Basil for dinner, the workstation doubled as our dining table.
FERRA GARDEN CORNER SUITE |
Another room I really liked is their Corner Suite. One of our friends stayed there and it became our party room for our first night in Boracay—one of the rare times that we’re too tired to go out for drinks. Its living room is very spacious, with a really comfortable daybed and a wide workstation fit for two persons.
ANOTHER VIEW OF THE CORNER SUITE |
Since we’re staying for almost a month in Boracay, we tried as much as possible to save money on all fronts, and that includes food. So, the thing I’m really missing from Ferra Garden are the mini kitchens that are available on most rooms at their original hotel, Ferra Premier.
DELICIOUS FOOD
FERRA GARDEN’S BRICK & BASIL RESTAURANT |
Ferra Hotel & Garden Suites Boracay has an in-house restaurant named Brick & Basil at the ground floor, a wood-fired bistro that serves really good dishes.
THEIR TAPSILOG IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED |
This is where we have our daily breakfast—which are requested in advance by their staff the night before—so you’ll just have to show up on the time you indicated and your breakfast would be right there. No time wasted in waiting for it to be cooked.
CUSTOMIZED BACONSILOG, MY FOREVER BREAKFAST |
They offer Western and Filipino breakfast and we usually opt for the latter. Their silogs are served with real garlic rice—I say real, because some places serve silogs with plain steamed rice, pffft—two eggs, a choice of hot coffee or choco, and orange juice.
FLUFFY PANCAKES, A’S FAVORITE |
For their silogs, they have the ubiquitous tapa, tocino (pork or chicken), longganisa, daing, and corned beef. What I really wanted though was crisply fried bacons. So, I asked if I can switch the bread being served with bacons to rice—which they readily obliged to, and tadahh—instant baconsilog! Besides this, their tapsilog and pancakes are also highly recommended.
A, ENJOYING HIS BREAKFAST |
A thing to note, if you have a child with you, know that you’d have to purchase a separate breakfast for them. It’s good though that their servings are hefty enough that my wife was able to easily share some of hers for our son without feeling wanting.
Also, they said that they’re bringing back their buffet breakfast soon—since guest bookings are now starting to pick up. Too bad we didn’t get a chance to try that.
A tip for those booking through hotel portals like Agoda or Booking, don’t include breakfast with your deal, it’s much cheaper to get them at Ferra Garden itself.
ROOFTOP BAR & INFINITY POOL
THE NEW RUF RESTO BAR AT FERRA GARDEN |
Besides their restaurant, Ferra Garden Suites has an open dining area situated beside a gorgeous infinity pool on its rooftop.
A FEAST OF EXCELLENT FOOD |
The Ruf Resto Bar used to be located at Ferra Premier, and it has now relocated to their new branch. We got to try a few of their menu offerings when our friends arrived in Boracay. A feast it was! Platefuls of nasi goreng, crispy pata, calamares, sisig, and lumpiang shanghai filled our table—with beers on the side, of course.
I can honestly say that everything, as in everything, is really really good!
FERRA GARDEN’S ROOFTOP INFINITY POOL |
And beside the restobar is their rooftop infinity pool. It stretches through the whole length of the hotel with a depth of around five feet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a shallow area for kids, so A really didn’t get to enjoy it that much. Still, with its nooks and semi-submerged pool deck chairs, it’s a really nice place for a sunset and evening swim.
IMPROVEMENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS
SPACIOUS TOILET AND BATH |
No hotel is perfect. And we noted a few of the things we wished Ferra Garden has.
One of these is a drying area for wet clothes. Since we always swim on the beach, it was a bit of a challenge to dry our clothes on a daily basis with the limited clothes rack in the toilet. Maybe a retractable clothesline can be installed or an outdoor rack can be utilized by guests.
Also, speaking of the toilet, it was a bit hard to keep the door to our toilet open. Why do we wanted it open? Since we use the light on the toilet as our dim night light, lol.
OUTDOOR BATH AREA |
Our room has an outdoor tub and shower area, which was a bit hard to use since there were no place to hang our clothes and towels. The shower area also has no nooks or appurtenances to put our soaps and shampoos on too, so we had to resort on placing them on the floor.
Other than those, we were more than contented with our stay in Ferra.
FINAL THOUGHTS
HAPPY AND MEMORABLE STAY |
A hotel can be chic, beautiful, and all that—those things are easy to achieve. But besides those, what Ferra Hotel & Garden Suites Boracay has are their genuinely friendly staff. From Mikay and Jen at the front desk, to Caloy at the restaurant, or even Miss Aby, the general manager—everyone is just so darn friendly that when it was time to leave and move to our next accommodation, we made it a point to drop by and visit just to say hello once in a while. Besides their unique garden rooms and good food, it’s their people that made our stay truly memorable. This hotel has a heart.
