AKLAN | Cheap Meals Under ₱100 ~ Affordable Food In Boracay
Friday, November 25, 2022Not a few people are daunted by staying for more than a few days in Boracay—not because of fake sick leaves that might eventually be found out by the boss—but by how expensive staying on the island is. And this is a very valid point, not only are the lodgings expensive, but the food as well.
CARINDERIA MEALS IN BORACAY |
During our three-week stay in Boracay, we managed to trim down our food expenses by bringing along a ton of foodstuff with us, along with a small rice cooker. But that’s not to say that we didn’t eat out the whole time we were there—eat out we did. On a few occasions we dined on expensive restaurants and Boracay buffets, but mostly, we ate on inexpensive eateries where most locals also dine in.
LUGAW AND FAST FOOD MEALS IN BORACAY |
Here are a few of the affordable food places with meals priced at less than a hundred pesos that we ate on during our stay in Boracay.
BORACAY FOOD UNDER ONE HUNDRED PESOS WHAT’S INSIDE? • Andok's Boracay • Blue Lotus Bakery • Bulabog Road Carinderia • Bulalugaw Grill & Restaurant • Jasper's Tapsilog & Resto • Lola DD's Tapsilogan • La Pearl Bar • McDonald's Boracay • Merly's BBQ Boracay • BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE |
ANDOK’S BORACAY
ADDRESS: SIX BRANCHES SCATTERED AROUND BORACAY | OPENING HOURS: DIFFERS, SOME ARE OPEN 24 HOURS
There is absolutely no other king when it comes to eating cheaply in Boracay than Andok’s. With six branches scattered around the island, this is the ultimate go-to place for tourists seeking refuge from expensive restaurants in Boracay. Granted, Andok’s isn’t really the cheapest, their most inexpensive meals—a single-serving of spaghetti is priced at ₱59.00, their rice toppings at ₱65.00. Well, alright, that is indeed cheap, even cheaper than eating at carinderias.
BLUE LOTUS BAKERY
ADDRESS: ROAD 1-A, BRGY. BALABAG | CONTACT NUMBER: (036) 288-3380 | OPENING HOURS: DAYLIGHT HOURS | GPS MAP: 11.965141, 121.927601
For tourists who opt to have their breakfast excluded on their lodging for a cheaper rate, bakeries around the main and side-roads of Boracay can be your go-to place. During our stay, we frequented the Blue Lotus Bakery near Bulabog Beach every morning for our pandesal meals. For ₱2.00 apiece, this is indeed as cheap as it gets.
BULABOG ROAD CARINDERIA
ADDRESS: 32 BULABOG ROAD, BRGY. BALABAG | OPENING HOURS: DAYLIGHT HOURS | GPS MAP: 11.965281, 121.924739
Since we were staying at Ferra Hotels & Garden Suites, the area around Bulabog Beach became our hunting grounds for affordable meals. One such carinderia we frequented was an unnamed eatery which has taken residence on the front yard of Second Wind Bed & Breakfast—which has since closed down. They serve really good Filipino home-cooked meals priced at around ₱50.00 to ₱60.00 per ulam or viand—this, of course, comes with unlimited serving of free soup.
BULALUGAW GRILL & RESTAURANT
ADDRESS: BORACAY HI-WAY CENTRAL, STATION 1 | CONTACT NUMBER: (036) 288-9826, (0927) 234-7355 | OPENING HOURS: 7:00AM TO 12:00MN | GPS MAP: 11.964978, 121.923907
During our beer nights in Boracay, we usually head over to Bulalugaw Grill for our after-drink recovery food. Honestly, for a lugawan, this place is actually a bit on the expensive side—a bowl of lugaw will set you back ₱35.00 (compared to a regular lugawan’s ₱10.00 to ₱15.00 per bowl), add an egg and it climbs to ₱50.00. But, being located near Boracay White Beach on the main road of Station 1, this is the most accessible lugawan with less than a hundred-peso price tag. And during our stay, this is actually the only lugawan I was able to find in Boracay.
JASPER’S TAPSILOG & RESTO
ADDRESS: BORACAY HI-WAY CENTRAL | CONTACT NUMBER: (036) 288-3435 | OPENING HOURS: 6:00AM TO 9:00PM | GPS MAP: 11.962434, 121.926872
One of the more famous inexpensive eateries in Boracay is Jasper’s Tapsilog. Located on the main road, just beside D’Mall, this place is usually packed with people dining in with a long queue line to the counter. And I can understand why, this place serves carinderia-like meals at carinderia prices, but with a restaurant vibe. Their cheapest all-day silog meal is priced at ₱75.00, and their ulam at ₱60.00 to ₱70.00 per serving.
LOLA DD’S TAPSILOGAN
ADDRESS: 472 BULABOG ROAD, BRGY. BALABAG | OPENING HOURS: DAYLIGHT HOURS | GPS MAP: 11.966334, 121.925886
One of the first carinderias we tried at Boracay is Lola DD’s Tapsilogan. Located near Bulabog Beach, their silog meals are pegged at ₱80.00. What really endeared me to them—especially since it was raining at the time—was their lomi, which is only at ₱60.00 per bowl.
LA PEARL BAR
ADDRESS: ZONE5 BULABOG, BRGY. BALABAG | CONTACT NUMBER: (0909) 900-4756 | OPENING HOURS: 24 HOURS, DAILY | GPS MAP: 11.962611, 121.928750
A bar by night and a carinderia by day, we found La Pearl Bar by following a sign from Bulabog Beach that points to a restaurant just a hundred steps from the beach. What greeted us was a “posh” carinderia with a totally not posh prices. An ulam cost ₱50.00 to ₱60.00, totally not bad, considering you can simply go back to the beach right after having your lunch.
MCDONALD’S BORACAY
ADDRESS: D’MALL, BRGY. BALABAG | CONTACT NUMBER: (036) 288-6236 | OPENING HOURS: 24 HOURS, DAILY | GPS MAP: 11.963118, 121.926397
McDonald’s in Boracay is not cheap. In fact, their prices are much higher than on regular McDonald’s stores outside Boracay. So, why is it on the list? Because if you use the vouchers on their app, then McDonald’s Boracay can be extremely affordable. During the numerous times we ate here, we were able to avail these items on half their regular store prices; Double Cheeseburgers at ₱65.00, 2-Piece Pepper Steak with Drink for ₱75.00, and McCrispy Chicken Fillet ala-King meal for ₱49.50. Not bad, eh? These actually comes in pairs, so better if you have someone to share it with.
MERLY’S BBQ BORACAY
ADDRESS: STATION 1, WHITE BEACH | CONTACT NUMBER: (0939) 883-1416 | OPENING HOURS: 2:00PM TO 11:00PM | GPS MAP: 11.965265, 121.922374
The last one on the list makes the less than a hundred-peso meal price but in all honesty, is more a snack than a full meal. Merly’s BBQ’s claim to fame is that it is said to be the pioneer in selling Boracay’s famous chori burger. The burger—which is basically a regular monay bun sandwiched with two pieces of sliced chorizo—is priced at ₱60.00. Maybe two or three of these can make a meal.
