AKLAN | Golden Phoenix Hotel Boracay Review ~ Affordable White Beach Beachfront Resort
Monday, May 15, 2023The first two weeks of our stay in Boracay was spent near Bulabog Beach—the first week at Ferra Hotel Garden Suites, and the second, at an apartment lent to us by a friend of Blissfulguro. By the third week of our stay, we finally transferred to a beachfront hotel, and at no less than the White Beach.
GOLDEN PHOENIX HOTEL BORACAY’S LOBBY |
To be honest, we wouldn’t really have booked a beachfront resort due to their prohibitive prices. It was just pure luck that we chanced upon a discounted rate on a booking app for Golden Phoenix Hotel Boracay. For ₱1,200.00 per night, we got a room for two—toddlers are free of charge—with complimentary breakfast. Totally not bad for a four-star rated Boracay beachfront resort.

LOCATION
Golden Phoenix Hotel Boracay is located right in front of Station 3 in Boracay White Beach. Its main lobby is actually situated on the beach access alley near eMall Boracay, and the one facing the beach is their pool and restaurant area. Which is actually a good move. I’d rather eat or swim with a view of the beach, that swap it for the lobby where the only activity you’ll do is check in and out.
THE HOTEL OPENS UP TO WHITE BEACH’S STATION 3 |
Being on Station 3, it’s quite near to the hubbub of activities on Station 2, while also being accessible to the quieter parts of Station 3. During our stay, we usually have lunch or dinner along the many restaurants in Station 2, then spend the evenings drinking beer at the rustic Cocoloco beach bar. Its location also gave us the chance to revisit, Angol Point, the farthest part of Station 3, and enjoy its total lack of tourists.
ROOMS
We were booked at Golden Phoenix’s Deluxe Room King, since we prefer having our son on the bed with us. Unfortunately upon checking in, we were given a Deluxe Room Twin room instead. To remedy the situation, they simply moved the two queen beds together, creating a massive super king bed, lol.
TWO MASSIVE BEDS AT GOLDEN PHOENIX HOTEL BORACAY’S DELUXE ROOM |
Besides those two, they also have a triple family room, a regular suite, and two themed suites—the Coral Garden Suite and Yapak Suite.
The resort is rated as a four-star resort, although to be honest, it doesn’t really feel that luxurious. Their interior design is a bit dated—classic dark wooden furniture on cream-colored wall surfaces. It’s something my mom would probably like. The theme permeates throughout the resort.
GOLDEN PHOENIX HOTEL BORACAY’S DELUXE ROOM AMENITIES |
To be fair, their Deluxe Rooms are quite spacious. The beds are massive, the toilet and bath is roomy, and closet spaces are more than ample. A table and chair is also included in the room, perfect for when we need to feed A his dinner.
DELUXE ROOM TOILET AND BATH |
It also has the usual amenities found on four-star resorts—tea and coffee-making facilities, a mini-fridge, flat screen TV with cable (which is a tad too small, in my opinion), free Wi-Fi, and very cold air-conditioning.
A MINI WATERFALL ON THE ATRIUM |
Our room was situated on one of the corners of the hotel along the ground floor. And while our window opens to a very unexciting view of a firewall, our door does open up to a mini garden of sorts, complete with a faux waterfall.
SWIMMING POOL
GOLDEN PHOENIX HOTEL BORACAY’S LONG POOL |
The main draw of Golden Phoenix Boracay is their central pool. Fronting the White Beach, it stretches for thirty meters, with rooms on the ground floor on each side. The main pool has a depth of around five feet, and its kiddie pool, three feet—perfect for our toddler. We usually swim here after hitting the beach in the mornings.
RESTOBAR
OPEN-AIR DINING HALL |
At the far end of the pool, right by the beach, sits their in-house restaurant and bar. This is where we usually are during early mornings, chowing down on their complimentary breakfast.
GENEROUS SERVINGS OF COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST |
Unlike most of our stays on other resorts, they don’t give guests the options of choosing their breakfast. What they serve for the day is what you get. If you don’t like it, then tough. We actually had a running game of guessing what they would serve us for the day. The only thing you can change is how your eggs would be cooked—and I like mine scrambled, thank you very much.
GOLDEN PHOENIX HOTEL BORACAY’S BEACH BAR |
During our stay, we were usually served silog meals—hamsilog, longsilog, tapsilog, tocilog, cornsilog—with generous amounts, by the way. And it comes with fruits, slices of tomato and cucumber, coffee, and juice. Not too bad, really. Plus, the person in charge of the restaurant always gives our son his own separate breakfast, which isn’t actually part of what we paid for—very sweet, indeed. We actually asked the front desk if our toddler would have his own breakfast during our check in, and they flatly said no.
IMPROVEMENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Like our previous Boracay stay, our main problem with the resort is their drying area. We found it extremely hard to dry the wet clothes we wore on the beach. I guess a retractable clothesline at the bathroom would help, or even a portable one placed along the hallway.
TAPSILOG AND CORNSILOG BREAKFAST |
And, oh yes, we’d really prefer it if we’re able to choose what we would have for breakfast. We actually saw a family seated next to us who plainly refused the meals they gave, and simply ate outside the hotel.
FINAL THOUGHTS
CHECKING OUT OF GOLDEN PHOENIX HOTEL BORACAY |
All in all, we did enjoy our stay at Boracay Golden Phoenix Hotel. Its location is the best, the pool is great, the rooms were more than adequate, and the food was alright. I do miss the genuine warmth and hospitality of Ferra Premier, although the restaurant staffs sort of made up for it. To be honest, it really didn’t feel like a four-star hotel, but for the price we got, you definitely won’t hear us complaining. This is, indeed, the affordable Boracay beachfront resort you’re looking for.
